Tomorrow is another day just like every other day. Given a deep thought, one will admit that his plans for tomorrow are entirely different from the rest of the days.
Twenty-fifth of December; the most celebrated day of the year, has ‘degenerated’ into something less and holds no significant value to the lots. None of us humans alive was there when Jesus Christ of Nazareth was born and yet, we commemorate him; or at least we pretend to. I grew up knowing that Christmas was a day, that one day that we all have to keep aside our worldly acts to uphold all things virtue. Families take this wonderful day to unite, settle and forgive all hurt and grievances held over the last eleven months and twenty-four days. They take the day off to show care and love to the less privileged, to put a smile on their faces and remind them that they are not alone.
That was many years ago, back in the days.
Christmas now to most is that day worth dying for, the very day that they have been hustling the past months for; the day to show off your wealth and assets, a day you either take to intimidate others or be intimidated. So many people have taken the highways just to meet up with the demand of this day. It’s needless to mention the evil that young men have resorted to ,all in the name of making money; we do not care about the New Year; we give our all to shine on Christmas, dying a day after means nothing. And if we make it through to January first, hallelujah! What a bonus!
To kids these days, Christmas is synonymous to Santa claus; who cares who was born on that day? If only parents take the same pain they use in teaching Santa to these kids to recount the birth of the messiah, maybe things would have been a lot different. Sleep tomorrow, is out of the question; forced insomnia. Definitely, kids are going to spend their money on fireworks; ‘bangers’. Some parents even take the pain to buy for their kids, fanciful and harmful fireworks for the Christmas celebration; giving them the opportunity to show off their stored up high level of ‘nuisancity’; please, I am not in the mood for checked grammars; you can query my use of English later. On social networks, even adults now refer to Christmas as ‘x-mas; ex-girlfriend, ex-husband, x-factor, exterminate; ‘ex’ takes away anything meaningful in any word; like they don’t know.
People now post prayers online and at the end, the type “…all these we ask IJN”, which they want to make me believe stands for ‘in Jesus name”. Can the world just come to an end already!? Tomorrow, my uncles and their wives and runaway relations are going to be at the village. Contrary to what it stands for, tomorrow, they are going to engage each other in words of the mouth and if possible, physical assaults; I pity the weak ones and thank God for my single bone. Words like these are going to be exchanged;
“you keep eating any how you without asking if others have eaten, are you the only one here?”
and you will hear a reply like
“Don’t even get me angry! How many bags of rice did you bring to this house? You just come back empty handed and think you can call shots on how food go down?”
and the next day, half filled pot of rice whatever else was prepared would be thrown away as wasted remnants. The only happy moment to everybody would be when we are all leaving to our various homes.
Don't forget the reason for the season.
Merry Christmas!
Nice!
